Private tutor in Vancouver, Canada

Education

I am a qualified high-school teacher. I have an independent-school teaching certificate from the BC Teacher Regulation Board. Bachelor of Arts in Classics (Latin and Ancient Greek language, literature, philosophy and history) at the University of Cambridge, England (2009-2012). Masters degree in Philosophy of Religion at the University of Cambridge, England (2012-2013). Post-graduate Certificate in Education (specializing in high-school teaching of Religious Studies) at King's College London, England (2013-2014).

Experience

Teaching experience: During my Masters year, I was a private tutor for a 15-year-old student taking a public exam in Latin early. I was his sole teacher. During my teacher-training year at King's College London I taught in two English high-schools. I taught Religious Education (a mix of Religious Studies, Theology, and Philosophy of Religion) and Latin. I was graded an "outstanding" teacher at the end of the year, which is the highest grade possible. King's College London is one of the best institutions for teacher-training in the UK. Why I tutor: I am passionate about my subjects, and I want to encourage, support and inspire students as they study them for themselves. I care deeply about my students, and I work hard to facilitate their personal and academic progress. Small-group or one-to-one tutoring often allows for a student who is struggling with a subject to make really striking progress, and it is an enormous privilege to be part of that. As well as working with students who are finding a subject difficult, I also love to push high-achieving students to achieve even more highly and to think even more deeply about a subject. I can provide references from previous mentors immediately on request.

Hobbies

Background: I am from the UK, but I have just moved to Vancouver because my husband has a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Applied Mathematics at UBC. Hobbies/Interests: I am a very keen musician, and I have sung in a number of semi-professional ensembles. As well as singing, I also play the violin, viola and piano. I love the outdoors, and I am an enthusiastic hill-walker (so I'm very excited to be in Vancouver!)
