Experience
My tutoring philosophy is firstly learning-oriented, secondly goal-oriented, and thirdly based on an environment where a student feels curious and comfortable. My students have been most successful when they are able to fully grasp underlying concepts and theory which builds a strong knowledge base, this is conducive to long-term success. I achieve this by first explaining a concept. I'm a visual learner so I often use diagrams/charts to help teach. Then I often ask students to explain the concept back to me which is a tool I find reinforces the concept best and points out any flaws in understanding. This method, I have found, leads to the largest jump in grades as students truly understand the course material in lieu of rote learning. It is important that students set and achieve concrete goals, whether it's to get an A in a course or ace a particular exam. I structure my lessons closely around the course syllabus and practicing expected questions in tests/exams. Learning is based on independent thinking, which is what I encourage. I want students to sense that learning is fun, and grasping each new concept is satisfying. Lastly, I recognize I need to understand the individual needs of each student, I am flexible to your schedules, goals, and learning style. I have 1+ years experience in tutoring 1st and 2nd year UBC students in Economics & Statistics courses, individually and in groups of up to 6 students.

Hobbies
I am a graduate from UBC with a focus on in Economics, Statistics, and Accounting. I teach because it truly brings me joy seeing someone understand concepts and I believe I am good explaining them. I believe these subjects can be fun and interesting and I strive to help my students see that. With a good teacher the trickiest concepts are within your reach! With younger students, I am open to teaching a lot more! I've lived in Vancouver for 5 years, but because I love travelling and learning about new cultures so much I have also lived in India, France, and Peru! So I can speak Spanish, French, & Hindi, apart from English. Other hobbies of mine include reading, biking, board games, and badminton!
